This kit is a big hit with my preschooler! My son loves drawing shapes and proudly tracing his own name along the dotted lines. The dry-wipe boards make it extra fun because he can wipe it clean and have another go (again and again!) until he gets it just right. The double-sided boards are great value and make learning feel like play. Definitely worth the money! I've bought several products from priya and peanut over the years and I've never been disappointed!

Bought two sets for my boys in preparation for school and they've really enjoyed practising their writing (and possibly even more the rubbing out!). Thrilled with the quality, thanks!

The mat has been great in helping our son to write his name. He is now attempting to write his name without the mat to which is great

The routine

Ten minutes after tea has never been so easy. Write, wipe and go again tomorrow.

Go from telling your child to practice, to your child wanting to practice daily after dinner. Go over the pads a couple of times, make a mistake, wipe it clean and keep going. No tantrums or issues like usual.

  • No tears or tantrums when practicing
  • Get it wrong, wipe it clean and go again

Why they sit for this one

From struggling to having fun learning

A worksheet is paper, one wrong move and a tantrum begins. Our Writing Pads include their name, which they can't get enough of learning and practicing. When a stroke goes wrong, the eraser wipes it clean and they go again.

  • Their actual name, printed to trace, on both sides
  • Wipe clean and go again, so a wrong stroke is not the end of the session
  • Dotted letters build formation, pen grip and control

Shapes, then letters, then their name

It starts where they are and ends with their name

  1. First

    Holding the pen

Doodles and half lines. Getting used to the grip before anything has to look like a letter.

  2. Then

    Shapes and lines

Zigzags and curves. The hand learns the movement first.

  3. Then

    Letters and numbers

    Lowercase, uppercase, 1 to 10 and 11 to 20.

  4. Then

    Their own name

The one they actually care about, traced until it is theirs.

  5. And then

    No pad at all

Their name, written by them, before Reception. That is the whole point.

Every child is different. This is the order the kit's pads are built in, not a promise about timing.

FAQs

Before you decide

Is it £6 or £20?

Both are real, because it is one product at two sizes. £6 is the personalised name mat on its own: one double-sided pad, no pen. £20 is the Complete Handwriting Practice Kit: that same pad plus five more and the pen and eraser. Pick either at the top and the name you typed goes on whichever you choose.

Will they actually sit down and do it?

No guarantees, and any parent who has tried after-tea letters knows why. What changes it is that this does not feel like an exercise: a design they picked, their own name on the front, and a pad they can wipe and start again without anyone sighing. Most start with the shapes and lines and come back for the letters. If they will not, the 30-day money-back guarantee covers it.

What age is it for?

From 3 and up. Three-year-olds usually start on the shapes and lines and treat the rest as drawing. Four-year-olds head straight for their name. Older children who are still settling their pen grip use the letter and number pads too.

Which designs can I choose?

Unicorn Pink, Dinosaur Blue or Safari Beige, at the same price. Pick the design at the top of the page and the name you type goes on the pad in that design. Letting them choose it is half the reason they sit down.

How many times can it be wiped?

There is no set number. It is one pad, used again after tea tomorrow and the day after. Wipe it with a dry microfibre cloth straight after each go and it stays clean. Black dry-erase pens only, which is what the kit's pen is.

Can I order more than one with different names?

Yes. Add each one separately with its own name typed at the top. Every pad in the basket carries the name it was added with, and that is what gets printed.

How is the name printed, and where?

In dotted tracing letters on the personalised pad, which is double-sided. Type the name exactly as you want it to appear. It is printed, not a sticker, so it does not wipe off with the pen marks.

How quickly will it arrive?

Dispatched in 1 to 2 working days, personalised pads slightly longer, from the UK.

Which pen do I need, and how do I clean it?

Our guidance, word for word: we recommend you only use black dry-erase pens on our Writing Pads, as these are easiest to clean. To clean, we recommend cleaning with a dry microfiber cloths. We suggest cleaning immediately after every writing session. The £6 mat has no pen. The £20 kit has both.
